Hi … I am Nora,
Welcome to Indian Mums Abroad!
I am so glad you decided to stop by…
This is a place for you awesome mums; our own little tribe of desi mums, settled in different parts of the world. As we navigate this beautiful journey of motherhood, we are all bound by a common thread of striking that delicate balance between our life abroad and the desire to stay connected to our roots and heritage.
Our endless domestic chores, professional commitments and infinite mommy jobs—takes a lot out of us. My hope is that this space can provide us a bit of respite in the form of mutual validation, connection, friendship and cool ideas. No matter what issues you face as a desi mum, you can take comfort and strength in knowing that you are not alone, that others have been there before, or going through it now.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, this can be ours…a place where we can all connect, learn from one another, share common (and not so common) experiences, discuss motherhood—joys and challenges, and of course, whinge and whine.
We are in it together. We can learn from each other, find support in each other, and grow with each other.
About me:
My name is Nora and I live in Canberra, Australia. I am mum to two amazing kids, who continue to marvel me every day (take it whichever way you like 😉), and wife to an incredible guy who gets me.
If I have to describe myself (i.e. my good-side only 😊) in one line, it would be that I am friendly, empathetic, adaptable and a solution-oriented person. I absolutely love and enjoy good company and friends over a delicious meal, festivals and cultural events.
Over the last 20 years, I have had a diverse career of working: as a television reporter for India’s national news channel, as a speech writer and policy person for the territory ministers and the Chief Minister of ACT, Australia, as an editor at the Australian Parliament House alternating between the House of Reps and the Senate, and also a stint in working for the former and only woman Prime Minister of Australia, amongst other jobs.
My venturing into the blogging world is an extension of my passion of connecting with, and bringing people together, to discuss cool ideas and share what has worked for me over the years.
And I am no expert—like you all, I’ve had my fair share of struggles and challenges—just learning, as I go along, by trial and error and by leaning on other mums for advice, support and encouragement. Therefore, your feedback is much encouraged. If you have any topic ideas that you would like to see covered here or discuss with other mums, email me (nora@indianmumsabroad.com) or connect via Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest page.
I hope you will join me on this lifelong adventure of motherhood, as you strive for lives of personal fulfillment and worthwhile legacies; and balance vocational aspirations with the desire to raise well-rounded, awesome kids.
