It’s a bag of mixed feelings. While your child is super-excited and filled with anticipation, you are a bit nervous and sad. You are happy for them but worry about every aspect of the trip.
You tell yourself, ‘It’s just for a few nights, relax’. But your mind runs through some worst possible scenarios of what might happen to your child while away from you.
Early in the morning as my daughter sang to herself, getting ready, packing last bits in her suitcase, I tried to soothe myself, ‘It’s all going to be fine, and there is nothing to worry about.’ Surely the school has put all safety measures in place and they are all going to be together with teachers. Yet I couldn’t help wondering, ‘Will she eat properly? Will she sleep well? Would she be okay through the night?’
As parents, we can’t help it. Worrying comes with the territory. We don’t realise how much we are going to miss them, even if its just for those 2-3 days, till we do.
But we all know–they will have a ball. So chill parents! On the bright side you have some more time on your hands.
Just enjoy this time, as they surely would—with or without your worrying!
